A Begg & Co scarf is manufactured with skill, care and attention to detail. We apply exactly the same values to ensuring that our materials are ethically and sustainably sourced. Our customers can be confident that within our supply chain we have made strenuous efforts to ensure that animals are well treated, that harmful chemicals are not used and that people are treated fairly. At Begg & Co we don’t just talk about sustainability, we go and make sure that it is happening. Our close relationships and frequent visits to our key suppliers help to make all of this a reality. We are members of the Sustainable Fibre Alliance, a UK-based non-profit international organisation. SFA promotes global sustainability standards for cashmere in order to restore grasslands and transform the complex supply chain of cashmere, from herders to retailer.
We make considerable efforts to look after our own people: employee engagement is one of our most important measures of success. There are many opportunities for employees to get involved in developing the business and in our support for charities, locally and further afield.
The company is a member of Sedex, a not for profit membership organisation dedicated to driving improvements in responsible and ethical business practices in global supply chains.
As most of our products come from animal fibres, animal welfare is a major concern for us. We only buy sheep’s wool and angora fibre from certified sources. We make it clear to our supply chain that animals husbandry must be to the highest standards. Additionally, because we like to see for ourselves, in the last years we have made several visits to China to audit suppliers of angora and cashmere.
