Art Meets Fashion in NYC
This autumn, artist José Parlá celebrates his new installation in New York with a unique collaboration with Begg & Co
The Brooklyn-based artist’s new work ‘Segmented Realities’, which is on view to the public at the Standard Hotel on The High Line, is his first external installation.
“The title just comes from the idea of this kind of segmented fragment that you experience and you move on, but it lives in your memory. I thought about ephemeral that is, not only the moment, but also the surfaces, but how can you retain that outside of just a photographer, picture or photograph?” says Parlá of the work.
To mark the occasion he has teamed up with Begg & Co to create an exclusive cashmere scarf that is essentially a wearable piece of art.
Images of Parlá’s ‘Habana y Cuarteles, 2015’, which is a brightly coloured work created using a collage of materials, have been transported onto a beautifully soft cashmere scarf by the Begg & Co team. Only 250 ‘Habana y Cuarteles, 2015’ scarves have been made and are available through The Standard Shops.
The ‘Segmented Realities’ launch in New York saw guests including actor Jason Biggs, model Tali Lennox and André Balazs, CEO of Balazs Properties.
Ann Ryley, Marketing & Sales Director of Begg & Co, says of the collaboration: “At Begg & Co we are ecstatic to work with José on his project and interpret his work into our finest cashmere scarves.”
